Theodore Roosevelt was a progressive, that began the attacks against the Robber
Barons and eventually led to the Anti-Trust legislature. Robber Barons were known as the leaders of big businesses who exploited workers for their own fortune. Some of the most powerful corporations were John D. Rockefeller’s Standard Oil Company, Andrew Carnegie’s Carnegie Steel, Cornelius Vanderbilt’s New York
Central Railroad System, and J.P. Morgan’s banking house. Theodore Roosevelt sued 45 companies under the Sherman Act, he stopped the formation of the Northern Securities Company, which
threatened to monopolize transportation in the Northwest. He became known as the Trust Buster by establishing the anti-trust laws to take the power away from the big business leaders.
